19 February 2015, Climate Change Department (CCD) of the Ministry of Environment organized a consultation meeting on the preliminary result of the 2nd study on the​ Understanding Public Perceptions of Climate Change in Cambodia (Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) with participation from His Excellency Secretary General of the National Council for Green Growth,​ CCD’s leaders, Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA), representative from DCA/CA and Cambodia’s Leading Independent Development Policy Research Institute (CDRI), totally 20 people.

Under financial support from CCCA II, CDRI is authorized to carry out the survey for the need for continuous public awareness raising about climate change risks, best practices for addressing those risks. The 2nd KAP study also intends to review the mechanism exited within Line Ministries and Agencies after the 1st KAP study was conducted in 2011.

The key draft preliminary results of the 2nd KAP study included:

  • Knowledge on climate change of the respondents have been increased;
  • Climate change, Greenhouse Gas and Global Warming's concept of people are getting better;
  • The number of people responded to changing weather has been increase though lack of budget and knowledge are still constraint;
  • The major source of climate change information is TV and Radio.

A number of comments were provided by participants to improve the quality of study in a depth scientific analysis which bring important inputs for policy, strategy, action plan, academic research and knowledge platform development.

It’s note that the survey is developed in qualitative and quantitative design employing in-depth interview (a total of 50 policy makers, decision makers and key influencers; and total of 1000 general public in 25 municipality and provinces) and group discussion which methodology similar tothe 1st KAP survey.
