Phnom Penh–12 November 2014, Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment organized a workshop on “Joint Crediting Mechanism” in collaboration with Institute of Global Environment Strategy (IGES) with the objective to brief about project cycle procedure of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and other guideline to implement the JCM project in Cambodia with a total 24 participants from relevant line ministries, local and international distinguish.

H.E. Ken Sereyrotha, Deputy Secretary General of National Council for Green Growth of the Ministry of Environment, delivered his remarks that Cambodia has involved with international community since 1999 to contribute addressing climate change. He further underlined “through JCM which is a part of Carbon market mechanism between Cambodia and Japan, various projects or GHGs reduction priority activities will be identified; and Cambodia will obtain new investment fund from Japan for dissemination of the low carbon technology, capacity building, employment creation, production quality and process enhancement in industrial sector, betterment of environmental quality, and new model acquisition for GHGs reduction.

Mr. Kenji Asakawa, Task manager​, Climate and Energy Area of IGES, expressed his high appreciation in close collaboration between Cambodia and Japan, resulted to various implementation activities in Cambodia to properly carry out JCM in the future.

The workshop was conducted after Royal Government of Cambodia through Ministry of Environment and Government of Japan signed on Low Carbon Partnership on April 2014. International experts from IGES, Overseas Environmental Coperation Center (OECC), and Climate Change Department’s technical staff provided overview of JCM in Cambodia, procedure development of JCM in Cambodia, and preliminary result of study on EcoMobility project in reducing impacts on Angkor park. In addition, participant have actively discussed about role and responsibility of JCM secretariat and other issues towards smooth JCM implementation in Cambodia.
