Phnom Penh - 21^th March 2014, a workshop on Energy and Environment Technology: Capacity-Building Cooperation for the Development of NAMA in a MRV manner was organized by the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment (CCD) in cooperation with the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC) in Cambodiana Hotel. The event is attended by about 70 representatives from ministries, and Cambodian/Japanese private companies. The objective of the workshop is to introduce environmentally sound technologies to mitigate the effects of climate change and to facilitate networking and match-making between Cambodian and Japanese companies for potential cooperation through technology transfer.

H.E. Dr. Sabo Ojano, Secretary of State of Ministry of Environment, presided over the workshop and stressed its importance for increase the cooperation between the technical specialists for low-carbon technology development. He also emphasized the Royal Government effort through Ministry of Environment in addressing climate change through greenhouse gas emission technology.

Mr. Jiro Ogahara, representative of OECC, underlined the necessity of the workshop in strengthening Cambodia-Japan cooperation to establish Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and sign in Joint Crediting Mechanism.

The event is running through presentations from Cambodian and Japanese specialist as below:

1. Technology Aspect of NAMAs and Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)
2. Introduction to the Cambodia Climate change Strategic Plan 2014-2023
3. Comprehensive energy saving solution at factoires
4. Biomass gas-fired power generation plant, Biomass boiler, Carbonizer
5. RENOVA’s experience in technology transfer in Asian countries - developing projects for renewable energy, energy saving and environmental protection using JCM

Mr. Sum Thy, Climate Change Department Director has further explained about procedure of private company’s participation in the environmental protection as well as greenhouse gas emission reduction. He also noticed that Ministry of Environment is ready to facilitate the partnership with Japanese and other partners that can transfer any greenhouse gas emission reduction technology and support sustainable development.

At the end of workshop, there is a match-making discussion to explore partnership for each technology between Cambodian and Japanese companies. Then a field visit to project site “Rice husk power generation” in Angsnuol District of Kandal province is organized.
