From 19 to 20 December 2012, the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance Trust Fund Secretariat (CCCA-TFS), organized a two-day training workshop on Vulnerability Reduction Assessments (VRA) at Himawari Hotel, Phnom Penh, as part of capacity development services provided to grant recipientsof the CCCA 2nd Call for Proposal. The objectives of the training workshop were to help build the capacities of grant recipients to conduct baseline and end-line data collection on climate change vulnerability of their project beneficiaries. 33 participants attended the training.

The training workshop was led by a team from the UNDP Cambodia Community Based Adaptation Programme (CCBAP) who introduced the VRA guidebook, VRA process and report, VRA analysis, and conducted a practical exercise through role play of VRA data collection. This methodology has been implemented in over 400 villages in Cambodia over the past few years.

As a result, grant recipients gained more confidence and trust in methodologies to developplans for community-based climate change adaptation, based on data collection. It was noted that the VRA could provide good guidance for grant recipients and community members for their analysis of climate change impacts on several sectors including agriculture, water, health, and coastal zone issues. Participants received some VRA materials for their future reference including a guidebook on vulnerability reduction assessment in Khmer.
