On 29-30th June 2022, the DCC/CCCA3 team organized a training workshop on climate change at sub-national level for the communities of Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, Odor Meanchey, and Stung Treng led by H.E. Chea Chanthou, Deputy Director-General of the GDPS, along with Dr. Hak Mao, DCC’s Director. The workshop aimed at building awareness of climate change and its related responding mechanisms of the 72 sub-national officers and other local authorities of Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, Odor Meanchey, and Stung Treng who participated the training workshop.

 

At the event, the group discussions organized captured experiences and key challenges including best practices to address climate change, including the community forest conservation and REDD+ implementation, community livelihood improvement, adaptation planning and law enforcement at the community levels. After the workshop, the participants visited the CCCA3 and the Ministry of Environment supported forestry community. The field visit introduced the participants to the forest conservation activities that have helped the rural communities to improve their livelihoods and capacity building, particularly through community financing for forest conservation and restoration activities and address the impacts of climate change led to drought seen in their areas.
