The General Directorate of Energy (GDE), Ministry of Mine and Energy (MME) conducted a dissemination workshop on “The Implementation of the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) for Energy Sector 2021-2023” on 15th of February 2022. The 2021-2023 CCAP was prepared to support the implement the Cambodia Climate Change Strategic Plan (CCCSP 2014-2023) and sectoral strategic plan, to align CCAP development with the goals and development plan of the energy sector. It also contributed to (1) reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector by updating the power development master plan, which aims to maximize the use of renewable energy, increase energy efficiency by maintaining sufficient, reliable, low cost, and sustainable energy; (2) adapt energy sector to climate change impacts; and (3) promote awareness and capacity in climate change for energy sector. To launch to document made, the workshop was conducted to:

1. Disseminate the Climate Change Action Plan for Energy Sector 2021-2023 to key stakeholders;

2. Raise awareness and introduce all relevant units and institutions jointly implement the “CCAP for Energy Sector 2021-2023” to contribute to implementing the (CCCSP 2014-2023) of the Royal Government of Cambodia; and

3. Demonstrate relevant stakeholders’ commitment to addressing the climate change issue in the energy sector to support the implementation of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strategic plan for climate change response.

The workshop was attended by participants from the MoE, CCCA3, GDE/MME, Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC), Electricite du Cambodge (EDC), and representatives from 25 Provincial Departments of Mine and Energy. At the workshop, the status of the energy sector and climate change-related issues were shared along with the produced action plans.
