On 08-10 April 2024, the Ministry of Environment with support from the CCCA3 organized an Awareness-Raising Workshop on Climate Change for Youths and Media Professionals in Cambodia. The workshop was chaired by H.E. Chuop Paris, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment and H.E.Yun Linne, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap province, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Environment, provincial officers, representative youth from Cambodia Red Cross, Scouts, and journalists from 25 different institutions, including Radio and TV stations, magazines, electronic newspapers, media and major online networks in Cambodia.
The workshop aimed to train youth and local media professionals on climate change policies, strategic plans, and actions implemented at both national and sub-national levels. It also aimed to exchange views between youths and media professionals through discussions and field visits to climate change-related projects.
At the workshop, climate change related topics including adaptation, mitigations, financing, and key policies as well as intervention made by the government and related actors were presented. Moreover, there was a fruitful discussion on the role of youth and journalists in climate change outreach and response in their communities, raised by of youth representatives of the Ministry of Environment and journalists. After lecturers and discussions, the group of youths and journalists visited two CCCA3-granted projects: “Building Climate Resilience Clean Water Pond and Wells” in Prasat Balangk district and Kompong Svay districts, Kampong Thom province implemented by the Ministry of Rrual Development and “CSO-Public partnership to favor safe water access in rural areas” in Trapeang Thom commune, Prasat Bakong district, Siem Reap province implemented by Teuk Saat 10001.
After the visits, they felt impress with the climate change projects, supported by the CCCA3, providing plenty of benefits to rural Cambodian in the areas, especially local primary school students who can access to clean water, supporting their resilience and improving their health. The journalists also developed videos and news articles about the project activities and achievements.
