The Climate Change Department under financial support from Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) organized a 6th Sub-National workshop on climate change awareness raising in Rattanak Kiri province from 24-25 April 2014. The event was provided to 50 government officials from relevant provincial departments, deputy or district governors and local authorities of Rattanak Kiri and Stoeng Treng Province with an aim to raise their awareness on climate change issues, how to effectively respond to those challenges and dissemination Cambodia Climate Change Strategy Plan 2014-2023.

 

In order to mainstream climate change into relevant sectors and ensure the effective coordination in implementing climate change activities, it is necessary to build up capacity and understanding on climate change to all government officials, the public and students, said H.E. Dr. Tin Ponlok, Secretary General of National Green Development Council of Ministry of Environment in this welcome remarks in the opening session of the workshop.

The Deputy Provincial Governor of Rattanak Kiri, H.E. Nap Bunheng, also posed his concern on the current climate change issues that are giving negative impacts to people and the socio-economic development. He further addressed the necessary to promote climate change knowledge among the public through mitigation options, adaptation measures, and green development since this can reduce their vulnerability.

The two-day workshop covered key climate change topics including climate change perception, causes and impacts of climate change, international and national response, adaptation, mitigation, carbon footprint calculation, and mainstreaming Cambodia Climate Change Strategic Plan 2014-2023.
