Green Climate Fund

Green Climate Fund

Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a unique global platform to respond to climate change by investing in low-emission and climate-resilient development. GCF was established by 194 governments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in developing countries, and to help vulnerable societies adapt to the impacts of climate change. GCF has been supporting Cambodia since 2014 on the green development initiatives and the Cambodia country programme prepared assists accredited entities developing and aligning their climate project funding proposals to priority areas of Cambodia. It also abbreviates a set of national development and climate change priorities and provides priority areas, which comprise of mitigation (agriculture, LULUCF, energy, transport, and industry) and adaptation (agriculture, LULUCF, human health, knowledge, research and innovation, infrastructure, and coastal zone).

In light of promoting a paradigm shift toward low emission and climate resilient development, this country programme harmonizes international climate finance and Cambodia fiscal priority and development policies, coordinating and allocating GCF funding to areas with financial and development gap, and ensuring programmes seeking GCF funding have incorporated environment and social safeguards as well as inclusive engagement process.
