Closing date: 2 November 2016, 17:00
Recognizing the need to enhance and share knowledge on approaches to climate resilience appropriate for Cambodia, the Department of Climate Change (DCC) of the General Secretariat of National Council for Sustainable Development is calling for submissions of 2-page descriptions of credible climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) practices under the two themes:
1)Indigenous/traditional practices for climate change adaptation and DRR; and
2)Practices that promote climate resilience and empowerment of women, children and youth.
Up to 15 of the best documented practices will be shared in a national ‘Conference on Community Based Climate Change Response Practices in Cambodia’, to be held on 29-30 November 2016. They will also be published as part of a compendium of practices for distribution at national and international level. The most appropriate submissions will be selected by a committee and posters prepared for display at the conference; authors of these submissions will be invited to attend the conference.
The contribution is open to governmental organizations, Cambodia-based non-government organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs), university researchers, students, local communities, and the private sector. Applicants can make their submissions as an individual or an organization. For organizations, one person must be identified as lead. Entries may be made either in Khmer or in English.
Adaptation practices to be submitted must focus on at least one of the following topics:
1.Indigenous and traditional climate change adaptation or DRR practices
- These can be structures, techniques or practices which have been used by local people for at least one generation to design or manage their buildings, natural resources or livelihoods, or to protect these from extreme events (floods, droughts, storms).
- Alternatively, they can be measures that local people have started to develop themselves in response to increasing temperatures or changes in rainfall patterns.
- Suggested topics include (but are not limited to) agriculture, water resources, health, urban development and transport sectors.
2.Practices that promote climate resilience and empowerment of women, children and youth
- These are local climate change adaptation practices that specifically enhance livelihoods of women, children and/or youth, or reduce their vulnerability to climate change.
- They should constitute examples of practices that can be used or developed further for increasing women, youth, and children’s resilience to climate change and extreme events.
Submission Instructions
- The template for submission is attached to this announcement (in Annex). It can also be downloaded from
- Applicants’ submissions must follow the template provided. Please complete every section of the template. Ensure the content of each section responds to the questions provided in the template. Submission cannot exceed 2 pages.
- More than one case study may be submitted, but these should be made via separate submissions. The applicant may work with others to document the practice and fill out the template.
- A sample submission of local practices is provided along with the template in Annex.

Selection Process
- A committee will review the received applications.
- The committee will consist of staff from the DCC, SPCR TA team, CCCA R3 team, and Plan International. The committee will select the most appropriate adaptation practices to be displayed at the Conference on Community Based Climate Change Response Practices in Cambodia in November 2016.
- Those applicants whose submissions are selected for display will be invited to attend the national conference to present their adaptation practices, and will receive an appreciation letter.
- The selected adaptation practices will be printed on X-stand posters for display at the conference.
- All adaptation practices selected for display at the conference will be further developed into 2-3 page cases studies for publication (with credit) in a compendium of adaptation practices.
